Beyond the Threshold Seattle International Dance Festival
Tickets can be purchased here for SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL, Beyond the Threshold theatrical shows including THE INTERNATIONAL ARTIST SERIS and SPOTLIGHT ON SEATTLE, presented in partnership with Cornish College of the Arts, hosting a hotbed of figures on the international, national and local dance scene at Raisbeck Performance Hall in South Lake Union.
Tickets for all shows are $17 Advance (or $14 Student/Senior) and $20 at the Door ($16 Student/Senior) 2-Show Pass is $30 and an All Access Pass is $45
INTERNATIONAL ARTIST SERIES - June 4-6 & 11-13
WEEK 1: Compagnie Prototype Status (Switzerland/Italy) - performing Marvin 'a biomechanical birth of an android' - with its fantasy mechanical world with a shimmering landscape of carefully raked sand, modern light sculptures of transparent plastic and soft stone - a robot, plugged into tubes becomes human. Selfick Ng-Simancus (Venezuela/WA) performs Study for Casio which premiered in Kyoto, Japan in 2009. This is a study of pure, crisp movement using a Casio MT-100 as the sole inspirational source. Khambatta Dance Company. (formerly Phffft! Dance Company of Seattle WA) performs La Fin - debarking on a farcical and sometimes comical character-laden, theatrical traipse connecting the death of flies to the "big rip," a scientific term predicting that the universe will one day just rip in half.
WEEK 2: Rainbow Dance Theatre with choregraphers Darryl Thomas (ex-Pilobolus dancer) and Valerie Bergman (Hawaii/Oregon) bring their 12-member group to perform Street Suite. They'll blend African-American Hip-Hop with Pilobolus-style dance and examine the urban camouflage required of the inner city life. Big Bang, delves the audience into an underworld of sea creatures both known and unknown. maika misumi mt3 (Japan)performs Study for Casio which premiered in Kyoto, Japan in 2009. performs Ditof, the artist explains "We build each new layer of our history upon a multitude of others. That which we appear to have destroyed does not disappear, but becomes another layer of the ground on which we stand,"
SPOTLIGHT ON SEATTLE - June 8-10
This new program brings together three established Seattle choreographers, Donald Byrd, Eva Stone and Pat Graney to curate a different evening of up-and-coming work by Seattle-based artists. Like a chef preparing a meal, the curators will give audiences their "flavor" of the Seattle dance scene.
June 8 curated by Eva Stone featuring Coriolis Dance Collective, Mark Haim, Lizzy Melton, Michael Rioux, Stone Dance Collective and Khambatta Dance Company.
June 9 curated by Pat Graney featuring Degenerate Art Ensemble/Haruko Nishimura, Stimulate Dance, Kogut Butoh (Joan Laage), Magpai Production Group (Dayton Alleman/Trinidad Martinez), PV/LAN1 (Pilar Villanueva). Skoveworks/Annie Hewlett and Khambatta Dance Company.
June 10 curated by Donald Byrd featuring Donald Byrd & Spectrum Dance Theater, Ezra Dickinson, Quark Dance, Zoe|Juniper (Zoe Schofield) and Khambatta Dance Company.
