NY Gypsy Festival and Balkan Cafe are joining forces once again to bring you the wildest party in town to celebrate the arrival of spring - one of the most important dates on the Roma/Gypsy calendar traditionally known as Erdelezi, Hidrellez or Djurdjevdan.
Heavyweights Zlatne Uste Brass Band have build a solid reputation over the past 25 years playing with Saban Bajramovic, Esma Redzepova and many other legendary Roma musicians from Eastern Europe. The foremost presenters of traditional Balkan dance music in the US, Zlatne Uste's repertoire spans the most important stops in the traditional music of the Balkans - Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Gypsy traditions.
Under the leadership of the young Macedonian / Turkish clarinet virtuoso Ismail Lumanovski, the NY Gypsy All-Stars band has amazed audiences with their funk and dance-inflected Gypsy songs. Time Out NY calls Lumanovski an adventurous, modern-minded frontman, who leads his band through a varied terrain of Balkan, Turkish and Romany selections, spiked with jazz and Western styles. The band consists of Ismail Lumanovsk on clainet, Panagiotis Andreou on bass, Tamer Pinarbasi on kanun, Jason Lindner on keyboard and Engin Gunaydin on drums.
