Collecting Currently: an Art Salon Series at the Brooklyn Museum
Collecting African American Art Thursday, April 8, 7-8:30 p.m.
Whether you are a beginning collector or just looking to refine your eye for collecting African American art, this session will help you develop informed strategies for collecting and expand your knowledge about the current market for work by African American artists. Moderated by Teresa A. Carbone, Curator of American Art at the Brooklyn Museum, the panel for the session includes Dr. Halima Taha, author of Collecting African American Art Works on Paper and Canvas; Nigel Freeman director of the new African American Fine Art Department at Swann Auction Galleries; Michael Rosenfeld founder of Michael Rosenfeld Galleries; and Corrine Jennings, founder of the gallery Kenkeleba House and a noted collector of African American art.
Collecting in Design Thursday, April 29, 7-8:30 p.m.
At this session, art collectors and design aficionados alike will gain insight into the collecting of design pieces ranging from industrial to contemporary. Moderated by Ellen Lupton, curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the session panel includes Vladimir Kagan, an acclaimed furniture designer and the owner of Vladmir Kagan Designs; Stephen Burks, a highly recognized American industrial designer and the director of the design studio Readymade Projects; and Suzanne Slesin, a former art critic for the New York Times.
