Funny Frank Olivier: CANCELED
"He's been on the Tonight show...twice," says Joey Pipia about comedy genius Frank Olivier who will be performing here in one show only at The Chameleon Theater, Tuesday, April 6th at 7 pm.
Olivier co-starred - for three years - in the original Broadway production of Sugar Babies, and he's been on so many TV shows it's just too many to mention.
He's performed his comedy and juggling at the Monte Carlo Casino in France, Trumps Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, Sahara's Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, as well as mounting his five (5) different one man shows in California, Oregon, Canada, and Sicily.
Funny Frank, aka, Frank Olivier, has been performing professionally for 20 years, and perfecting his craft since age 11. He has never known 'normal' work. Raised in a small country near San Francisco called 'Berkeley' the self taught Frank was soon a regular on San Francisco television, playing with a small circus, and honing his technical skills. Upon graduating from high school, Frank attended Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Clown College.
"It's the only college in the world where the class clown, and the most likely to succeed are both the same person!" says Olivier.
He turned down a Ringling contract, returned to San Francisco, and took to the streets, but at a good time. It was San Francisco's heyday of street performing and here he developed his unique wild brand of humor.
He started playing the local comedy scene, and would often play on the same bill with folks like a young Dana Carvey, Robin Williams, Whoopie Goldberg, Bob Goldthwait and others. After four years of street performing and comedy clubs, he took his first trip to New York. It was slated as a vacation, but after 4 days in the city, fate intervened. He fell into an audition and landed a role with Mickey Rooney & Ann Miller, in the Broadway hit 'Sugar Babies'.
For the next three years he traveled the country with them, earning rave reviews, and a nomination for a 'Helen Hayes Award' (best supporting actor in a touring production). Soon 'The Tonight Show' was banging on his door, and - after the routine he did with Johnny Carson - lots more television, live shows, corporate dates, plus European tours, and more.
"I have the best job in the world!" Olivier says, adding, "This is what I'd always hoped I would be!"
