Description: Go through a visioning process to get your dream out of your head and on to paper. Erika Allen, an urban farmer and trained art therapist, will walk you through making your vision a reality. You will walk away from the process with a detailed mind and relationship map and a tool-kit to get your ideas off the ground. We will also focus on fine tuning business plans and developing viable farm plans for the first year of farming, including crop plans and production goals.

Description: We will develop market strategies and look at market opportunities from restaurant sales to local farmers markets. Participants will learn about retail and direct sales, learn how to set up a farm stand, how to manage your cash flow, as well as set up budgeting and record keeping. We will discuss invoicing, micro-loans, grant writing and reporting.
Certification for Your Farm Operation Saturday, March 7, 2015
Schedule: 9am-12pm Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) 12pm-1pm Lunch 1pm-4pm Organic Certification
Description: Learn about the certification required by institutional buyers for wholesale purchasing. Participants will gain an understanding of all the components necessary to create a food safety plan and organic certification for your farm. We will demonstrate safe harvesting and post-harvest handling, modeling good sanitation practices. We will tour the farm and discuss best practices for GAP farm management.
Building Healthy Soil Saturday, April 4, 2015

Description: Learn about composting and building farms in the city. The workshops will focus on how to compost using worms, anaerobic and aerobic composting methods, as well as what the current city regulations are regarding composting. In the afternoon, participants will take finished compost and learn how to build and plant growing beds at our farm.
