Sorcha Barr and Sara Corry (flute-harp)
Are you dreaming of Christmas, as sleigh bells ring, and thinking the weather outside might be frightful? Come in from the cold and enjoy the fire in the Music Room of the beautiful Stanley Hotel as you listen to classical and holiday music on Sunday afternoon just before Christmas. What better way to celebrate the holiday with friends and family than the complement of Flute and Harp with Sara Corry and Sorcha Barr. "Sara Corry's music is a beacon of fiery light, crafted with an elevated degree of intelligence, and an inventive imagination," wrote the Sun Post News. Coming from both a scientific and musical background, she has received a Catalyst grant and a Meadows Exploration Grant to fund her ideas linking music and physics. Working as a successful composer she's enjoyed readings by the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Voices of Change, UT Symphony Orchestra, Aeolis Quartet, Interlochen Quartet, Interlochen Ensemble, Three Play, and Vivant Philharmonia.
Honors include awards from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Voices of Change, P.T.S.A., Russell Horn Young Composers Competition, and the North Texas String Quartet Competitions. Sara has served as the resident composer for the Casa Romantica, Frozen Fire Films and the Dallas Chapter of the American Red Cross. Sara Corry is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and is currently working on her DMA at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Sorcha Barr began flute after moving to the United States from Ireland in 2000. Ms. Barr has performed in New York City's Gallery MC as part of an electroacoustic concert with Circuit Bridges. She has also given a solo recital in Boulder, CO, and performed at UMKC's Composer's Exchange in Kansas City, Missouri. Sorcha has been a featured soloist with numerous orchestras. Her appearances include concertos with the Neuqua Valley Symphony Orchestra in 2011 and the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra in 2012, as well as placing in the Chicago Flute Club student competitions and the Society of American Musicians competitions. Sorcha was the resident composer for the Dallas Chapter of the American Red Cross and has also received various commissions that have featured her work in lectures, commercials and sculpture gardens. Sorcha is a junior at the University of Colorado Boulder pursuing a bachelor's degree in Flute Performance. Please welcome for their first appearance with the Winter Series, Harpist Sara Corry and Flutist Sorcha Barr.
