APRIL VERCH BAND at The Conway Muse
"A beguiling blend of folk, jazz, old-time, bluegrass and roots music woven together with precision, intensity and soul."
April Verch's featured performance in the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Winter Games confirms her status as one of the top female virtuoso fiddlers in the roots music genre.
April Verch launched her professional career by winning the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Competition. Last July she headlined Skagit Valley's Highland Games at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon. A performer since early childhood, April has now released seven albums, including her 2001 Rounder Records release, Verchuosity, which earned a JUNO nomination for best roots/traditional album. Experiencing an April Verch show is like hopping a supersonic freight train from an old lumber camp in northern Ontario, across the wide prairie, through the Appalachians down the Mississippi to the Louisiana Bayou, across the sea to Brazil, France, and the Scottish Highlands and back, with stops at Carnegie Hall and church thrown in for good measure. April is not just a world-class fiddler, she is a world-class step-dancer and with a voice hailed as "absolutely captivating" by the Toronto Star. April will be joined by Cody Walters on upright-ecectric bass and banjo, and guitarist Clay Ross.
