Impact Retreat #1
This full-day, workshop-style retreat provides an opportunity for attendees to refine their impact goal(s) for 2015 and create an initial plan to achieve success. Attendees are asked to bring their big goals for what they want to do in the next year as it relates to making an impact in LA through the nonprofit, for-profit, media, and government sectors.
The exclusive group of attendees will participate in various activities throughout the day that will help them dig deeper into the work they're trying to do and the impact they're trying to make. There will be portions of the day that include individual work, small group exercises, and full group discussion.
To prepare to attend, attendees should understand the basic concept of what they are trying to achieve and the setting in which that achievement takes place in Los Angeles. (A set of preliminary questions will be sent one week before the retreat to help prepare the registered attendees.)
Who should attend: There are countless people who have a passion that might not be their current job, or they may have a vision for how their community could be better, or they hope for a different daily routine. They may think of these ideas when they "should" be thinking about the task at hand. We say: follow the vision; give in to your passion!
If you have a vision for a new or expanded project, program, service or business (be it for-profit, non-profit, or government), this workshop retreat will help refine that vision and create an initial work plan for 2015 to move you closer to doing the meaningful work that you've thought about doing.
This is a day for you and your future, and those willing to admit they have a vision they want to follow will find this day inspiring, enlightening, and most important: actionable.
Bring your laptops, your iPads, your tablets, and your phones -- what ever tools will help you create the plan for your vision.
General Format and Topics: The day will focus on a few topics, including: - De/Refining your "big" goal - Understanding and navigating the environment in which you have to function, and how you can create new, "blue oceans" in which to operate - How to find ways to lighten your load, clear the path, and start the journey - How to keep "doing" and not just thinking (yes, we know: thinking is a part of doing!)
The day will start with basic concept introductions followed by individual work and then small group work. Before lunch, the whole group will reconvene. Lunch will be provided as the work continues with workshop activities as a group. Final small group conversations will lead to action plan development and refinement. This full day will give you what you give in, so attendees will walk away at various points on their own path to action. No two people, visions, or plans are the same; so the success of the day will be measured differently.
The day will be facilitated by the City Impact Lab's John Bwarie, as well as other speakers on specific topics.
Location and logistics: The workshop will beheld on the campus of Woodbury University in Burbank; exact parking and room instructions will be sent to registrants along with the set of pre-questions. All materials needed will be provided.
Due to planning requirements, cancellations cannot be reimbursed after 12/25/14.
