CubaCaribe presents the Sixth Annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance and Music: From Katrina to Port-Au-Prince
This year marks the sixth year of the CubaCaribe Festival of Dance and Music with three consecutive weekends of exciting workshops, lectures, film screenings and performances.
The Sixth Annual CubaCaribe Festival is an explosive celebration of culture's tenacity. It honors how history is recorded within the dancing body and explores how the Caribbean Diaspora is always evolving. Driven by economic displacement, political instability and natural disasters, pulled by hope, industriousness and initiative, the migration of peoples gives rise to artistic forms characterized by combustible boundary-crossing: geographic, cultural, linguistic, racial and traditional. The CubaCaribe Festival provides a unique opportunity not only to showcase this work but also pay tribute to the struggle, perseverance, survival, and spirit of the artists who create it - from New Orleans to Port-Au-Prince to San Francisco.
