Applying for funding can be one of the greatest stresses for filmmakers. But here's a chance to hear more about what funders are looking for and the best practices for applying to them.
Join us as Natalie Difford (Chicken & Egg Pictures), Ryan Harrington (Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund) and Adella Ladjevardi (Cinereach) calm our nerves and share their invaluable funding criteria with us.
Working with funders is all about building relationships and it starts with a familiarity of all the options out there. Meet The Funders will get you familiar with the current landscape and include some top tips on filling out those tricky applications and submitting killer sample footage. This event is most relevant for filmmakers working on social issue projects.
Natalie Difford is the Program Associate for Chicken & Egg Pictures, a hybrid non-profit film fund and production company dedicated to supporting women filmmakers who are as passionate about the art and craft of storytelling as they are about the human rights, global health and environmental justice issues they are embracing, translating and exploring on film. Natalie comes to Chicken & Egg with a wide range of film experience which includes roles at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros, This is That, London Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and IFP as well as production for independent film projects (The New Twenty, Wedding Bros.) and cable TV productions for A&E, Comedy Central, IFC, MTV Productions and VH1. Natalie also screens for a variety of broadcasters and festivals. Prior to entering film, Natalie was an Account Executive at Outward Bound. She graduated from The University of Sussex with a B.A. in English and Media Studies.
Ryan Harrington is the Director of Documentary Programs at the Tribeca Film Insititute where he oversees the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund and develops other initiatives and programs that support non-fiction filmmaking. Independently he has produced the films 21 Below, Entre Nos, P-Star Rising, and the upcoming Hungry in America (Kristi Jacobson & Lori Silverbush), Radio Unnameable (Paul Lovelace) and The Chameleon (Ben Steinbauer). Harrington managed production for A&E IndieFilms, the theatrical documentary arm of the A&E Network, for four years. Throughout his time there he championed the Oscar-nominated films Murderball and Jesus Camp, and the Sundance hits My Kid Could Paint That and American Teen. Other films include Barbara Kopples Bearing Witness, Annie Sundberg & Ricki Sterns The End of America, Le Cirque: A Table in Heave and Alexis Arquette: She's My Brother.
Adella Ladjevardi is currently the Grants Manager at Cinereach, a NY based non-profit that funds and produces well-crafted feature-length nonfiction and fiction films that depict underrepresented perspectives, resonate across international boundaries, and spark dialogue. Adella was most recently the Associate Producer for 2009s My Neighbor, My Killer, a documentary feature by Emmy-award winner Anne Aghion. She was also Associate Producer for the four-hour cut of acclaimed filmmaker Jennifer Foxs 2008 documentary mini-series Flying: Confessions Of A Free Woman, broadcast on the BBC and SBS, and served as the Distribution and Outreach Manager for the educational and non-theatrical markets for the six-hour version. Prior to working with Fox at Zohe Films, Adella worked for three years in marketing and publicity at Icarus Films, an established documentary film distributor. She was also Associate Producer of Tanaz Eshaghians 2002 short doc I Call Myself Persian: Iranians In America, broadcast on PBS and screened at MOMAs Documentary Fortnight. Adella received a BFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design.
