Headlands Center for the Arts Presents: Please Love Me
Combining dance, live video projection, and original sound-scapes, Please Love Me jettisons traditional theater spaces in order to explore the contradictory impulses of connection and loss, beauty and aggression, choreographic craft and pedestrian contexts. Commissioned by Headlands Center for the Arts, Please Love Me is the culmination of a two year collaboration between choreographer Alex Ketley and media artist Les Stuck. Dancers from Ketley's company, the Foundry, will perform interactively with Stuck's audio-visual elements in the Mess Hall, while audience members enjoy an organic Headlands' meal. Designed in portable modules meant to bring highly constructed works into unconventional spaces, the piece will go on to show as part of the San Francisco International Arts Festival and elsewhere, exploring venues as diverse as pubs and public sidewalks.
The commissioning and production of this world premiere is made possible by the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation and The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation Choreographer Collaboration Awards.
