MARIEE SIOUX Nevada City-based songwriter Mariee Sioux spits piney rhymes over oaken-tuned acoustic plucking. Her twilight narratives detail encounters with ghosts, myriad woodland creatures, and her mom. But with a voice that bends around the branches with more flexibility than her fellow folk-nymphs, you couldn't pick a better guide for your night-hike. - Jennifer Maerz, SF Weekly
FAUN FABLES is Dawn McCarthy's vivid imagination come to life in song and theater; a sea of gorgeous elemental nitty gritty; haunting melodies, breath, stomping, and natural theatricality led by the voice, rooted in the physical body. It is a crossroads where ancient ballad, art song, physical theater and rock music meet. Her lyrics speak to people of all ages about things like rugged housekeeping, street kids, growing old, sleepwalking and exiled travelers returning home.
KEMO SABE A wild acoustic trio that play what they call "modern-day campfire songs" with the bare-wire energy of punk rock. There's mandolin, a beat-to-shit upright bass, acoustic guitar, and calamity. At times fast and furious, at other times soft and sweet, they kick around a variety of genres from bluegrass to klezmer, to rock n' roll. Playing such diverse venues as street corners, Taco Bell, musical saw festivals, and punk rock clubs, they've developed a reputation for zany stage antics and solid picking and slapping.
LOW SON A Somber Blues Melody wrapped in Folk Tales, Roger Ramsaur has assembled a group of local musicians to accompany him in his performance of the material he has fittingly titled "Low Son". His players include Thaddeus Stoenner (Black Bear), Justin Hunt (Sbach) Micah Cone (M. Cone and the M. One Yea's) Clay Powers (Offering to the Sun) and James Bratt ( Aequorea). When asked what type of experience listeners should expect from the Low Son project Roger replied with saying, "this music is the truest expression of my heart, it is a labor of love and will be magnified with the help of a group of musicians I consider family".
