Lasher Keen and Faun Fables
The Winter Solstice has arrived once again & to that that end we will be celebrating the turning of the seasons wheel with revelry to rival & pageantry to proclaim. Three acts will be converging to create a show of mythic proportions. You will perhaps hear a traditional Christmas ballad retold with Scandinavian fiddle & Peruvian bells. Or mayhap the storyteller will arrive, revealing a winter time myth, replete with crowns of holly & exotic dancing women. Follow the sounds of swelling gongs, hunting horns, the plucking of harps, the bowing of strings, the chorus of gay laughter & unheard of harmonies, they will be sure to lead you to a celebration not unlike those of distant times. Come all ye faithful!
Lasher Keen -- Lasher Keen is an ensemble for the creative vision that unites ancient mythologies with passionate psych-folk instrumentation. Combining music, storytelling & theater from the rich cultures of their ancestors, they draw inspiration from the traditions of Celtic Bards, Irish Fili, Norse Skalds & the infinite realms of glimmering space. Their work is based on diligent & thorough research, intensive rehearsals & long periods of gestation, out of which they bring to life an entire world with words & song. Lasher Keen's perfprmances are intimate & compelling, transporting the listener into the unforgettable realms of myth. They could easily be at home in the court of some long ago King, or the beehive hut of a grizzled old blacksmith, entertaining with their great humor & musical virtuosity.
Birch Book -- As poet, pilgrim, progenitor of wyrd-folk and maestro of Birch Book (and formerly In Gowan Ring), B'ee has developed a homespun sonic tapestry with peculiar richness of vision, recording over a dozen full length albums and performing in over 30 countries worldwide in veritable itinerant fashion.
Variously labeled 'Wyrd', 'Psychedelic' or 'Avant Folk', Birch Book is rooted in poetic-folk traditions while cultivating an inimitable, self-attuned writing style that prefigured the 'New-Psyche-Folk' movement.
Faun Fables -- Composed of Dawn McCarthy and Nils Frykdahl, Faun Fables is a crossroads where ancient ballad, art song, physical theater and rock music meet. The lyrics speak to people of all ages about things like rugged housekeeping, street kids, growing old, sleepwalking and exiled travelers returning home.
Dawn McCarthy -- Dawn McCarthy was raised in Spokane, WA by two piano players from Chicago and grew up making sounds and dances with a big family. Her primary education and inspiration have come from all kinds of unorthodox and self-taught means. At home, her parents played romantic, impressionistic and folkloric melodies via Bartok and Debussy, while older siblings helped develop her taste for rock and experimental music. In New York City, Dawn studied at the School Of Visual Arts and New School for Social Research and cut her teeth as a performer with several adventurous theatrical and musical groups.
