You're Worthy
Inspired by the Charged Bodies workshop led by Tim Miller at Links Hall in 2008, writer/performer Sentell Harper has created an evening-length work of his personal story:
I once asked my friend, what audience would want to hear about a Gay Black man, whose parents abandoned him, was raised by an overpowering grandmother, at the age of 10 declared that he was the 6th Huxtable child and threatened to runaway to New York to live with his television family, whose mother stole his identity at the age of 22, and had a nervous break down only discover that his biggest obstacle to overcome was himself?
My friend said, Who wouldn't want to hear that story?
The reason I perform at all is because I hope that audiences will recognize a part of themselves in my story. That part of everyone who feels judged, alone, or is afraid to be more than they think they are. The title of this piece is You're Worthy! And I want everyone who watches the performance to know that: it's something that is not said enough.
