PERFORMANCE ART IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE OUGHT TO BE ENTERTAINING
An edgy drama depicting an imaginary recount of the last argument in the fatal relationship between 1980s avant garde art stars Carl Andre and Ana Mendieta.  Written and directed by Sean Fletcher and Isabel Reichert known for their tabloid-style approach to performance art, the play stars veteran actors Phillipe Coquet and Carla Pauli.

Sean Fletcher and Isabel Reichert have been collaborating together since 1994 on conceptually based performance works, interventions, writings, installations, videos, photography and prints.  Their work is about power and vulnerability; how it relates to relationship dynamics, society, and politics. Collaborating is a tool that Fletcher and Reichert use to integrate the negotiation for power into the work of art.

Their recent project, Performance Art in Front of an Audience Ought to be Entertaining, is both a written work and a performance; a heavily researched one-act-play about the turbulent relationship between artist couple Carl Andre and Ana Mendieta.  Fletcher and Reichert use the event of Mendieta's death as a catalyst to discuss the conflict between The Institution that heavily depends on the salability of art and the Idealistic Artists who spend their lives searching for the rare and enlightened audience.
The artists exhibit internationally, and have appeared on both NPR member stations KQED and KALW in San Francisco, on Studio 360 (a PRI syndicated program) in New York, and Spiegel On-Line in Europe.  Their work has appeared in numerous art publications and the major media including Flash Art International, Art Week, East Bay Express, Der Spiegel, the Associated Press, The Contra Costa Times, The Oakland Tribune, The San Francisco Chronicle, and The Washington Post.  They have lectured at numerous universities, colleges and museums about their work.  Outside the studio, Isabel Reichert teaches university courses in conceptual art, film, and digital media.  Sean Fletcher works professionally as a financial planner in San Francisco, CA.
