This Chanukah, celebrate a real miracle: Palestinians and Jews, socialists and socialites, rabbis and atheists and even real-live actual Christians together in one room, doing the most subversive thing imaginable...laughing.
W. KAMAU BELL has emerged as the post-modern voice of comedy. Kamau was recently named an Ambassador of Racial Justice by the ACLU and sits on the advisory board of Race Forward, a racial justice think tank and home for media activism. Kamau is best known for his critically acclaimed, but criminally short-lived FX comedy series, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. The New York Times called Kamau "the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years." And Salon.com listed Kamau on their "Sexiest Men of 2012" list, calling the series "surreptitiously revolutionary in its effortless diversity and humanism." The SF Weekly called Kamau "smart, stylish, and very much in the mold of politically outspoken comedians like Dave Chappelle," though he was more excited that they called him "handsome."
SAMMY OBEID is a Lebanese-Palestinian-Syrian-Italian-American comedian, born in Oakland, CA, and best known for his 1,001 day streak of consecutive comedy performances. It began on December 26, 2010, and concluded on September 21, 2013 four days after an appearance on TBS's Conan. Breaking the old world record on Day 731, Sammy set the new one at 1,001 Arabian Nights of Comedy. Over the course of the streak, he appeared on NBC's America's Got Talent and became the first comedian to perform on The Food Network. He was profiled in TIME Magazine and the New York Times, which described his material as "full of wordplay" and "clever misdirection." Chunks of his streak were spent as youngest member of both the CoExist Comedy and Axis of Evil: New Generation national tours. Capping the streak, his debut album, Get Funny or Die Trying, was named a Best Comedy Album of 2013 by iTunes. Not slowing down, Sammy has now embarked on a national college tour performing for hundreds of students a week.
NATO GREEN was summed up more or less accurately by The East Bay Express as, "erudite and acerbic, a San Francisco-raised father, union organizer, gastronome, bibliophile, and political sparkplug." He performs on Fridays at the legendary alternative comedy show at Hemlock Tavern, The Business. His podcast The Nato Sessions is produced by 3200 Stories. His first comedy album, The Nato Green Party, was released by Rooftop Comedy. Nato has been named San Francisco's Best Comedian by the SF Weekly, Huffington Post, and CBS. Nato is the creator of Iron Comic, the Iron Chef-spoofing comedy game show he co-hosts with Moshe Kasher.Nato wrote for Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX and toured nationally with W. Kamau Bell & Janine Brito as Laughter Against the Machine.
JENNIFER JAJEH is an internationally presented artist and comedic performer from San Francisco and based in Los Angeles. "I Heart Hamas: And Other Things I'm Afraid to Tell You", her first solo theatre show toured 12 US cities, before making its international debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this past August. In its fifth year of touring, the show has won acclaim from critics and audiences both in America and the UK. The show returned in Winter 2013 with 2 final performances in Beirut, Lebanon and London, England. In addition to her work as an actor, Jennifer has produced and directed award winning film and video projects. Her work has been profiled in the Huffington Post, the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, NOX Magazine Jordan, on BBC Arabic, WBAI NYC, and Link TV to name a few. Named one of Fen Magazine's Artists to Watch in 2011, she is currently at work on her internet talk show "In Bed with Jen Jajeh".
JOSH HEALEY is an award-winning writer, performer, filmmaker, and creative activist. Fusing his distinct storytelling style with a subversive humor and fiery love for justice, Healey is a regular performer on NPR's Snap Judgment. He has performed at UC-Berkeley, Harvard, and over 200 colleges, high schools, and grimy house parties from coast to coast. Former program director for Youth Speaks, Healey's toured with his first book Hammertime across the country. A recipient of the Mario Savio Young Activist Award, Healey believes in radical free speech and practices it to the fullest. Sometimes this gets him in trouble. His videos and work have been featured in The Huffington Post, Upworthy, ColorLines, The New York Times, and Al-Jazeera. He currently directs the Culture Shift program with Movement Generation, producing comedic videos and creative storytelling around fun topics like climate change and the end of the world. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Healey lives in Oakland. He plays a mean game of spades.
