Edible World: Sunday Supper and Family Lore
First Person Arts invites you to share your family recipes and stories at a family-style Sunday supper at Bridget Foy's restaurant. Bring your family or join ours!
Recipes do more than instruct us on how to bake a cake or roast a chicken. They offer a glimpse into family customs and histories. Between the measurements and ingredient names, oven temperatures and pan sizes, exist stories about ourselves and people we love.
Suzan Colon, author of the new food memoir Cherries in Winter, joins First Person dinner guests to share stories about food and family. Cherries in Winter recounts how Colon turned to her Nana's recipe collection for home-cooked meals after losing her dream job. What started out of financial necessity became a source of comfort as the recipes revealed and deepened connections between memory, family, and tradition. Bridget Foy's will be creating a special menu for the event.
Want to share the stage with Suzan Colon AND be featured on her blog? Send a family recipe and accompanying story and be one of three guests chosen to tell your story at the event! Your story should be a maximum of 250 words. Deadline for recipe/story submission is March 26th. Send recipes to Karina Kacala, kkacala@firstpersonarts.org.
