Carl Dimow/Jim Lyden Duo
Carl Dimow is an eclectic and versatile musician, equally at home on flute and guitar. He performs a wide variety of music including jazz, acoustic blues, klezmer and Brazilian folk music. This special concert will draw on all of those genres, with music from Scrapper Blackwell, Naftule Brandwein, Yip Harburg, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and others. It will also feature some of Carl's original compositions, including The Mensch. Carl has toured internationally with the Casco Bay Tummlers and performs regularly with a variety of ethnic and jazz ensembles. This is a rare opportunity to see him in a duo setting.
Carl will be joined by his long time friend and collaborator, Jim Lyden, on acoustic bass. Jim is noted for his beautiful sound, soulful improvisations, and wonderful ability to adapt to any style of music. One of the most in demand bassists in Maine, Jim has recorded with Bobby Watson and Tiger Okoshi and has performed with John LaPorta, Roswell Rudd, Herb Pomeroy, Oliver Lake and many others.
"Carl is one amazingly versatile and soulful musician on flute and guitar, who has tackled everything from klezmer to Thelonious Monk to Debussy, not to mention many of his own compositions, making everything his own as he goes." Greg Boardman
"This is emotionally charged music, played with abandon by musicians who are clearly comfortable with each other...The reworking of two classic tunes for clarinet into flute solos is just brilliant." Elizabeth Watson, Greater Boston Flute Association
