SFWFF - Indie Spotlight: Feature Narrative
Film Line-Up:
106 directed by Candice Day (Canada, 2008, 6 min, Narrative Fiction) On the eve of Wilma Harrington's 106th birthday, she is anything but happy. Wilma holds the honor of being the second oldest person in Ontario, Canada - second by mere minutes to Edna Berry. For the last few years, Edna has been showered with gifts and media attention as everyone celebrates her 'accomplishment' while Wilma is completely ignored. Although she tries to be content with her own life, Edna's fame is beginning to drive Wilma insane with envy. Between Floors directed by Jen White (USA, 2009, 87 min, Narrative Fiction) Between Floors examines the human condition through a uniquely claustrophobic lens, intercutting between five stuck elevators and the people trapped inside them. Each elevator becomes an existential purgatory, forcing its occupants to not only confront their isolation, but themselves and each other in varied and unexpected ways. Taking place entirely in five elevators, Between Floors is as unusual as it is arresting, blurring lines of genre, tone and form while its characters are stripped bare - trapped, alone, waiting - and we get to watch what happens.
