Successful and beautiful pruning serves the needs of both woody plants and humans. By understanding the needs of different species of trees and shrubs as well as observing their natural habit of growing we can make safe, healthy and aesthetically pleasing pruning decisions. We will cover the why, when, and how of pruning woody plants, coppicing, pollarding, root pruning, tool sharpening and sanitation.
This class will be held outdoors and participants will be working with shears, loppers and handsaws.
This workshop is only open to present and past participants of The Huntington Botanical Gardens "Train - the - Trainer" Program. Train-the-Trainer is a grant sponsored course intended as professional development for people actively involved in teaching gardening on a community, education, or professional level.
