What do you get when you combine 5 female playwrights, 1 director, 6 actors, stir gently and bake? Live Girls! Theater's 2014 Layer Cake SHORTS, a part of our Bakery play development program. These five playwrights were given the theme "risk and reward", a few simple guidelines and were asked to create a short play. An ensemble of six actors will perform all the pieces and at least two will be picked for inclusion in Live Girls! annual short play event in Quickies Volume 16 coming to Annex in June 2015.

The Layer Cake Workshop is a program that centers around plays that Live Girls! has committed to fully produce in the future as well as projects we have commissioned. We work with each writer or team of writers to develop a workshop plan including public presentations of the work. Layer Cake Readings give audiences a unique opportunity to be directly involved in the shaping of new plays that they know will be part of future Live Girls! seasons.
