Pop-Up Shabbat: The DarJewling Limited
On Friday, December 19, 2014, join us for Pop-Up Shabbat: The DarJewling Limited. A quirky, colorful, and proud celebration of the thousands-year-old, mystical Indian Jewish community.
Sandra di Capua, formerly of Eleven Madison Park and soon-to-be owner of a kosher taco spot uptown, is baking our challah this time. Multiple varieties and raita dipping sauce, too.
Anna Roy, known by at least one enthusiastic fan as the Daal-I-Mama, will serve up a wholesome, aromatic dinner of steaming rice and daal inspired by her memories of feisty and flavorful communal gatherings back home in the southern-most state of India.
Dessert - frozen lassi pops - will be prepared by Monsieur Singh. Forget Pinkberry.
Representing the melody and rhythms of North India, Eric Fraser and his joyous and groovy trio will fill the room with the sounds of the classical bansuri flute and tabla.
Gin-based cocktails infused with the flavors of the spice and tea markets. That, too.
All so real, you'll think you've been transported to Jew St. in Ernakulam, Kerala (yeah, that's real, too).
