Find Hakamadare! by Fukuda Yoshiyuki
In their first full length production, Geopolis presents a traditional Japanese folklore, much like the commonly known story of Robin Hood. A group of villagers, suffering under a neglectful government, long for the legendary Hakamadare to save their village. Tired of waiting for a revolution, this group of villagers decides to venture out disguised as the heros band, in search of the mythical man. Along the way, they encounter strangers, steal from the rich, give to the poor, and right the wrongs in other villages. However, the story turns dark when Hakamadare actually appears, and doesnt turn out to be the good-hearted hero everyone hopes him to be.
This play, written in 1960, returns Japanese theatre to its roots and reintroduces magical elements to the stage, culminating in a production inspired by traditional Japanese music, the art of Noh Theatre, and puppetry. The GTC 2009-2010 season focuses on Japanese culture, and so the production will be performed at the Japanese Culture Center in Lakeview. Cast includes Tyler Andere, Bryan Bosque, Ali Clayton, Mitchell Beecher, Mike Danovich, Dree Elfring, Josh Hoover, Amber Lageman, Amber Linde, and Andrew Luckenbill. Directed by Kristy Scheuer
