In the spring of 1946, a mass grave was unearthed in the Hungarian village of Abda. One of the many bodies found was that of the poet Mikls Radnti, shot by Hungarian fascists eighteen months earlier. Found in the front pocket of his coat was a small notebook of poems, the so-called Bor Notebook. Through poetry, Radnti told the story of the last six months of his life, a time first spent laboring in a Nazi camp in Serbia, and then on a three-month forced march to Abda where he was killed when he was too weak to continue. Through the use of evocative, lyrical footage, readings of his poems and interviews with some of those who knew him best, Neither Memory Nor Magic tells the story of one poetâs triumph over inhumanityâa story previously untold outside of Hungary. USA, 2007, 57 min.; Hungarian with English subtitles; Narrated by Patricia Clarkson
