Enjoy an authentic Puerto Rican Christmas tradition at Las Octavitas. Join 300 community members and leaders from across Boston for a night of live entertainment by Gilberto Rivera and Rumbanamá, dancing, great raffles, and a delicious homemade Puerto Rican dinner, including dessert and coffee. Proceeds of Las Octavitas will directly support the Hispanic Writers Week program of the Institute for Learning and Teaching at UMass Boston.
For twenty years, Hispanic Writers Week has introduced literary professionals from all corners of the Hispanic world to over 4,000 Latino public school students and serving thousands in the Greater Boston community. Hispanic Writers Week 2015 will run from Monday, May 4th to Saturday, May 9th during which over 300 students will work directly with a Writer In Residence to develop original literary works, a number of which will later be published in the HWW Anthology. The week is enhanced through the Community Readings that take place each night in the public libraries of the city and reach thousands of published and aspiring writers who share their literary talent with the community. Thanks to the help of our partners and sponsors, HWW will reach thousands through its programs and media promotions.
