GSFF Panel Discussion-From Your Head to the Screen:
Everybody's a good story. And everybody has watched a movie or a TV show and said, My story is better than that!

Getting your story from your head to the big or small screen isn't easy, but it can be done.

It could be your story, a relative or friends, something you read in the news or knew about years ago or something you think would be a great show.  This course will take you through the steps and minefields of the idea development process. We will explore what it takes to get that idea on paper, secure rights to stories, protect your ideas, write treatments and scripts, take pitch meetings, find an agent or others to help you, and ultimately get that dream realized.

Joe Seldner is a writer and producer who was creative executive to Tom Hanks, has produced for HBO and Paramount, has developed many stories, taken dozens of pitch meetings and read hundreds of scripts.

We will cover:
Getting your idea into presentation condition
Teach you who does what, who you need and don't need, pitfalls, rewards
How to pitch and write a treatment (screenwriting software to be discussed)
Get you started writing a script
-What makes an idea "right" for movies or TV (as opposed to a book, a
skit, or just a not very good idea)
Agents, lawyers, producers and other necessary evils. How to get
an agent's attention; finding friends and allies in the business; when do you need a
lawyer; why wont agents listen and ways around them.

Getting it made and getting paid. How to make your idea real - and
what can and likely will go wrong on your way to success. What to charge,
what is realistic and what isn't, etc.

Evaluating your work; what to do next; what if this wasn't a good idea; why you should be working on your next one or two ideas while waiting for this first one to happen.
