Temple Emanu-El and the German Consulate General of San Francisco Present Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester
It's OK to dance in the aisles as Max Raab's world famous 18-piece ensemble dishes up hits of the '20s and early '30s Weimar Germany, many written by Jewish lyricists and composers, now taking their rightful place in the cultural firmament. These pieces, meant to be forgotten when Wiemar failed, are enjoying a quiet triumph: they have found a young audience.
In 1986, baritone Raabe founded the Palast Orchester with a few fellow students. Now they can be heard on the most famous stages of the world in New York, Shanghai, Tokyo, Rome, Paris and Moscow.
This San Francisco debut performance will feature the song, San Francisco Open Your Golden Gates by Jewish composer and later Hollywood emigree, Walter Jurmann. The song was a smash hit from the 1936 Clark Gable movie, San Francisco. http://www.palastorchester.de
