Sorry this class has been cancelled. We hope to see you in 2015!!
Many people, who are involved with BDSM, may be using an adaptive device (wheelchair, cane, hearing aid, etc.), have a chronic health condition, a hidden disability, or even just changing needs from aging. This class will include an interactive discussion on different health and disability topics present in the BDSM community. Often times a person hears about something they are unfamiliar with or someone deals with a stigmatizing condition and are unsure of what to do next.
Topics will include, some reasons why people with health and disability issues may want to engage in BDSM, how to deal with limitations (and freedoms) of various conditions, and things to include in the negotiation process and when meeting someone new. Through group brainstorming, we will discuss ways to adapt play to meet the needs of those on both the top and the bottom half of the equation. We will discuss working around limitations along with perverting adaptive devices within relationships and scenes.
This class will introduce differing abilities in the context of BDSM. All are welcome. People with disabilities and chronic health conditions are encouraged to attend as are those who are involved with people with these issues. Examples of possible topics include mobility issues, back pain and injuries, visual and hearing disabilities, chronic health conditions, aging, and chronic pain. If you have an adaptive need or need to discuss specific accommodations, please feel free to contact The Spot at SBSpotchelgrrl@gmail.com. Please give adequate advance notice to allow full opportunity for the accommodation to be met.
Presenter Bio: chelgrrl (Michele) has been in the lifestyle since 1999, becoming a regular part of the public community in 2006. She identifies as a pansexual girl who seeks a total power exchange monogamous relationship. In BDSM, she has coordinated monthly events and volunteered in both basic and supervisory positions with local play spaces, as well as, at multiple conferences and currently is very active with The South Bay Spot, a new membership organization that hosts regular events in Santa Clara County.
Professionally she has experience as a health educator, a diversity trainer, an advocate and is often referred to as a resource princess (refusing the title of queen).
chelgrrl experienced her first disabling condition in 1994 and has since walked through hidden disabilities and chronic conditions to visible ones, now using her "pervertable" powerchair and rollator (aka bondage-ator). Teaching is almost as great of a passion as learning for chel, especially when it involves opening doors to people who think they are not welcome or experience fear, feeling it's impossible to enjoy their bodies anymore. It's her passion to help others find new ways to enhance pleasure and achieve fulfillment through sensation.
Because we have to limit the number of attendees, it is highly recommended that you purchase your tickets early.
