Drop the Lime Bio:
Everyone comes from somewhere, but some people wear the cities theyre from like badges of honour. Drop the Lime is Luca Venezia, one of those people whose identity is intrinsically connected to his hometown New York City.
And while many have only just heard of the magic of Drop The Lime, Luca has been honing his craft for years. From humble beginnings as a choirboy to a childhood obsession with 50s rocknroll, the 25 year old has been experimenting with sound for years via the underground electronic scene of Kid 606s TigerBeat6 label, Mad Decent and French label Institubes (under his alter ego Curses!).
Drop The Limes influences range from Brian Eno to rockabilly (hes well known for his 50s doo wop and soul sets) to Sonic Youth to Wu Tang but things dont just stop there. He also runs Trouble & Bass, an influential New York club night and label since 2006. The Trouble & Bass crew are the DJs who are defining a new New York sound.
Having a crew from NYC behind you, pushing the sound you produce, is essential in creating a movement. Were all producers and DJs so sometimes well collaborate on productionor Ill have one of them help out with one of my basslines since they understand my sound better than anyone else.
2008 has been a year of serious breakthroughs for Drop the Lime; a moment when the talented lad who stuck to his guns in making bass heavy tunes to slay dancefloors all over the world has finally started to make it to the bigtime.
It all started with a remix for Pop darling Robyn, who was so impressed with his work she took him on tour, introducing him to a whole new audience. Next on the list was London superclub Fabric. They were so gobsmacked by his DJ skills and vocals (yep, he sings like a bad boy Sinatra as he plays) that they instantly offered him a Main Room residency a move that packs the club out every time.
Moving along with a massive set at Coachella, a hugely successful North American and Australian headline tour and suddenly were at the summer of 2008, and Drop the Lime is killing it with summer festival dates around the UK at the likes of Lovebox, Creamfields and V Festival. Hes also somehow found the time to complete remixes for Moby, Blaqstarr, Rex the Dog and Midnight Juggernauts, as well as writing songs with Diplo and Herve. No the wonder the likes of MSTRKRFT, DJ Mehdi, Switch, Diplo, Sinden and ATrak are raving about him.
Drop the Limes new single, Hear Me, drops on Trouble & Bass worldwide in October. The dancefloor filler with its dreamy chorus featuring Lucas own husky crooning comes with remixes from the new mob of AC Slater, Drums of Death, and Kuduro superstars, Buraka Som Sistema tree names that will be ruling 2009.
With an album out in June 2009 one can only expect things to get even crazier for New Yorks brightest new star.
