Kate MacLeod & Kat Eggleston
Kate Macleod and Kat Eggleston recorded Drawn from the Well, released in 2003, and created a heavenly mix of traditional and original songs. Admirers of one anothers music for eons, the duo has performed together for ten years. Their distinctively different voices (Eggleston's alto tones, guitar and dulcimer paired with MacLeods more ethereal sound, violin and guitar) offers listeners an unbeatable two for one deal. Eggleston says for the Blue Heron Art Center (her favorite Island concert venue) they will play a mix of original and traditional tunes and songs from England, Scotland, Ireland and U.S. She adds that they sometimes cover songs by the likes of Woody Guthrie or Andrew Calhoun. MacLeod composes classic American music with a fresh bent from her Utah home. Her newest recording, Blooming, produced by Tim O'Brien, is earning rave reviews. Everything she does is magic, says Eggleston. Her fiddle and guitar playing, her writing, everything is wonderful. Sought-after performer, studio musician and teacher Macleod's live performances exhibit the link between traditional music and cutting-edge contemporary songwriting. Hailed as one of the Ten Acts to Watch by editors of MusicHound Folk Essential Album Guide, MacLeod tours throughout U.S. and Europe. Her songs have been featured on nationally syndicated radio shows including Tom May's River City Folk, Judy Collins holiday program, Peace on Earth and have been sung by others on A Prairie Home Companion. MacLeod crosses musical genres with her heartfelt songs, many of which are reincarnated through other musicians at jam sessions and performances. Her songs have been recorded by artists from California to the Czech Republic. Island musician and one of the most accomplished singer/songwriters in folk, Celtic and traditional music, Kat Eggleston kick-started the New Year by garnering the prestigious Female Vocal Album of the Year Livie Award for her newest recording Speak.
