Laura Love & Orville Johnson
Laura Love and Orville Johnson perform on Vashon Island

Authentic and deeply rooted, Laura Love exhibits timeless and diverse appeal collecting droves of fans throughout North America, Australia, and Europe agree. Her CDs (11) have repeatedly made Billboards annual Top 10 lists. According to The New York Times, She conveyed the fervor of someone reaching out with an almost frenzied joy to seize the strands of a confusing life and weave them into a coherent, life-affirming vision. Simple and yet revolutionary, Love has been called startlingly original by Billboard Magazine. She has played festivals and venues, including New Yorks Carnegie Hall, San Franciscos Great American Music Hall, Royce Hall in Los Angeles, Washington Center for the Arts in Olympia, and the Aladdin Theater in Portland, Oregon. She last appeared on Vashon several years ago in VAAs Summer Music Festival at Camp Burton.
In recent years she has added a more acoustic, soulful performance to her stage offerings. Since 1995, in addition to her band, she has toured as a duo with great success with a handful of extremely well regarded musical partners includingsinger/songwriter/guitarist, Jen Todd, fiddler/vocalist, Barbara Lamb, and most recently, the master of country blues guitar, Orville Johnson. Johnson, a well respected Seattle based multi-instrumentalist, has long played solo and with a variety of great performance and recording partners such as Mark Graham, John Cephas, Woody Mann, Mike Auldridge, Stacy Philips, John Miller and Grant Dermody. He has appeared on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, Jay Leno's Tonight Show and was featured in 1997 film Georgia with Mare Winningham. His recorded music was featured in Peter Fonda film The Wooly Boys and on compilation CD, Legends of the Incredible Lap Steel Guitar. In-demand recording session player and legendary instructor Johnson teaches for music camps around the world. When Orville and Laura perform together expect two huge voices, Johnsons sublime finger picking and slide guitar and Lauras distinctive bass. Together they perform material from each others extensive catalog along with a delightful new collection of spirituals, blues and songs from the Civil Rights era. Their repertoire includes music from African slaves, blues and English/Scotch/Irish folk music, to country, bluegrass, jazz and contemporary folk and pop.
The duo released a 2009 CD, The Sweeter The Juice, comprised of songs they have performed together. The recording features Johnson playing his famed dobro as well as acoustic guitar.
