A Concert for Remembrance Day 2014
Under the direction of Nicholas Fairbank, together with the members of the DieMahler String Quartet: Pablo Diemecke & Shima Takeda, (violins) Elizabeth Massi, (viola), and Larry Skaggs (cello), the 30-voice choir will perform music from several periods and styles,
As part of its mandate, Via Choralis features Canadian works in most of its programmes, and November's concert is no exception, with half of the concert repertoire by Canadian composers.
The programme will be divided into four sections: (1) The Clarion Call a summons to battle, (2) A Soldier's Reflections using texts of a more personal nature, (3) Sacrifice including Robert Halls' setting of "In Flanders Fields," and (4) Renewal, Absolution & Peace closing with Stephen Chatman's beautiful setting of Sara Teasdale's poem "Peace," accompanied by the string quartet.
