In this BEYOND WINNING presentation, renown Sports-Illustrated investigative reporter, author and youth sports consultant Luis Fernendo Llosa will give tips and strategies for creating a healthier balance between fun and performance in youth sports.
Luis Fernando Llosa will take a look at the role of sports in childhood and youth today, the importance of free play, the effects that organized sports can have on your child's creativity, social, physical and psychological development.
Three out of four kids quit youth sports by the age of thirteen and orthopedic doctors are seeing a dramatic increase in serious repetitive sports injuries in kids, previously reserved for professional athletes. In this talk, Llosa will examine common problems which can impede a young athlete's development and offer suggestions for change.
His first book, Beyond Winning: Smart Parenting in a Toxic Sports Environment, co-authored with Kim John Payne and Scott B. Lancaster, is a candid, practical guide to help parents navigate the fanatical, results-obsessed world of youth sports.
Llosa is an award winning international sports profile specialist, and has made more than 500 national and local television and radio appearances, including CBS, CNN, FOX, and ESPN.
Luis will also host a workshop to deepen the theme on Saturday morning, the 8th, 9am -12pm at École Élémentaire publique Trille-des-bois, 140 Genest Street in Vanier.
For coaches and parents of children from preschool to high school. Adults only. Tickets for both events are available at www.brownpapertickets.com, or at the door. For WORKSHOP TICKETS go to: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/890344
