Eve was Framed...a comedy about misogyny
Vashon Island actress/activist/writer/mother, Lynann Politte has spent much of her adult life addressing the issue of misogyny. Perhaps best known for her feisty editorials, producing and directing the Vagina Monologues, Vashon Youth Theatres Beyond Therapy and most recently directing the highly acclaimed Red, White and Who (with Harris Levinson and Stephen Seigel) now she will perform her own work. Politte has collected and polished a dozen original writings and rantings, with the help of Director, Elizabeth Klob, to culminate a first time, one-woman, multi-media VAA New Works performance piece to be performed at Blue Heron Art Center. Eve was Framed represents Polittes personal journey, but says it actually represents womans journey and that our personal stories are what keeps us connected to one another. Incorporating comedic vignettes, movement, music, singing and even a shadow dance, Politte says this (her premiere performance) pushes her boundaries. Its been nothing short of amazingI love working with Elizabeth. Politte says, I see things in society that are misogynist. I hope to show how they link to history and how misogyny is still manifested today. I call it systemic misogyny. Shes also quick to add that humor is a great way to address hard issues and that ultimately her piece celebrates womankind. Comedy, historically is a tool people have used to make social commentary; in comedy you can get away with saying a lotIm excited about that. Its not me standing up there pontificatingIm connecting with feelings--the ah-ha moments, the epiphanies and the victories; its very visceral. Polittes partner Stephen Seigel will provide technical direction for the work. Island costume designer Patricia Toovey created the colorful headpiece. Working from a dozen interwoven personal vignettes, Politte says the piece is rated PG-13 for subject matter.
