He was weaned on a Philco radio and his first gig, 50 years ago, was a church talent show. From that modest beginning, Capital District musician Marty Wendell went on to tour as Johnny Cash's opening act, recorded at Sun Studios, gained national radio play, and curated the North Country's premiere country music festival.
A famously engaging and enthusiastic live performer, Wendell has played countless stages coast to coast. His son, Sean Wendell, is now a regular bandmate, joining his father on stage and in the studio to play early pop standards and originals rooted in gospel and blues. With 50 productive years to celebrate, Marty remains as eager as ever to make his audience happy with a night of great tunes.
