Between You and Me
Between You and Me spans a writing period of 14 years and includes several revised plays first performed at the Blue Heron Art Center in 1995, in addition to four new pieces. A bakers dozen of Island actors will perform in the one-weekend-only show. From laugh out loud funny to thoughtful and poignant, Director/playwright Stefani Priest artfully presents realistic situations and dialogue from quirky (and sometimes over the top) yet believable characters. Inspired mostly by observing people Priest says, The motivating thing for me is to convey that we are more alike than we are different. I think we all try to protect ourselves and dont always want to be who we are. But ultimately all we really want is to be appreciated and loved. Monologues and scenes include a young girl trying to tough it out; a married couple who talk on their cell phones to other people throughout their lunch date; an eccentric middle aged woman dealing with personal problems while carefully monitoring problems of the world; A high strung mother and difficult teenage daughter at odds; a group of long-time friends with strong personalities argue of the menu: and an idealistic young woman balances art and unemployment. Despite the setting, Priests scripts capture life's moments to remind us that our concerns, problems and triumphs are universal and that in the end humor may be found in nearly every situation.
