Opening Night Festivities
Event one: 5:00 p.m. Presidentâs Reception Meet and speak with this yearâs visiting filmmakers and special guests, at an exclusive dinner party. Tickets are $100 and includes the entire evening of RIIFF events listed below: The Marquee Room of the Providence Performing Arts Center will sparkle with international filmmaking stars on the rise at RIIFFâs 13th Official Presidential Reception. Joining us this year is famous composer Klaus Badelt, a gentleman of astonishing talent whose music has crossed nations, cultures, and generations. As a twice ASCAP Award winner, and a World Sound Track Award winner, his is a success story in the realm of music and film. Delicious catering by Ellen Loconto of Just Ellenâs Catering & Event Planning will also be provided. Musical accompaniment by Lois Vaughan Jazz Duo will add to the creative flow of the night. Presidential tickets are available to the public for $100 dollars per person on a limited basis and will provide access to all opening night festivities. The Official Presidential Reception is the âmust attendâ event of the festival; it is an opportunity for attendees to mix-and-mingle with international filmmakers, visiting celebrities, and special guests. Seating: 125; Tickets: $100 (good for the entire evening) Weblink: http://www.film-festival.org/OpeningNight09.php Event Two: 7:00 p.m. RIIFF Opening Night Short Film Selection, Theatre The film screenings will begin at 7 PM in the Providence Performing Arts Centerâs main theatre. With a roster of brilliant international short-films, audiences are sure to be delighted with the imagination that makes this festival shine. RIIFF is honored to present Mr. Klaus Badelt with our Crystal Image Award; presented to an emerging artist whose outstanding work and vision epitomizes a new voice that must be heard; an individual=2 0whose talent will have a positive impact in the future. Admission to this event is $20 per person. The Rhode Island International Film Festival is the only New England festival that serves as a qualifier for the Short Film Academy Award and it will once again open the 2009 Festival with a showcase of some of the finest examples of this popular genre. Many of the shorts will be World and U.S. premieres. Special support for this presentation is courtesy of HB Communications and Sony Corporation. Tickets: $20; (Combo Tkt.--$50 for film screening & party) Capacity: 3,300 seats 9:00 p.m. RIIFF Gala Celebration, Mezzanine & Lobby An evening of great film will topped off with a taste of Rhode Island. The Post Premiere Party will be held in the lobby area and mezzanine of PPAC. This event is $40 per person and will begin immediately following the screening and continue until 11 PM. Guests will enjoy a night of food and festivities, all with an international flavor as RIIFF pays tribute to it s visiting filmmakers from around the world. In addition to the flavorful food, music will be provided by the Bobby Kyle Band, a jazz ensemble making it's Rhode Island debut, promises to be one of the best. Fabulous restaurants - including: Aspire, Daveâs Marketplace Catering, Decadent Catering, GaGa Sherbetta, Local Hero Catering, Mill's Tavern, Pizza Pie-er, Venda Ravioli and Wholefoods - will be featured and enjoyed throughout the evening.
