Blue Heron Spring Dance
More than 100 Blue Heron Dance students ages 3 to adult will present a spirited potpourri of Ballet and modern dance, from original works (choreographed by students and teacher Rebecca Schroeder) to Carnival of Animals by French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Sans and Serenade by Tchaikovsky. Each of four performances will begin with Carnival, featuring dancers ages three to 12. Carnival conveys an engaging story about children who take a field trip to the museum of natural history. The museum comes to life with mules, kangaroos, tortoises, loins, chickens, swans, fish, birds and mice according to Director of Dance Christine Juarez. Colorful and comic the piece showcases young dance talent. Written as a reward to himself, Tchaikvoskys Serenade pays homage to Mozart, includes a waltz and the finale is based on an upbeat Russian folk tune. Juarez has restaged Tchaikovskys Serenade, made famous by the great Balanchine, for Blue Heron advanced dancers. While the stunning music is not staged around a specific plot like many ballets, Serenade is essentially a group of mature trained dancers moving to beautiful music. A visual spectacle, dancers will be attired in full length robins egg blue tutus. Serenades choreography will emphasize fluid formations and complex upper body movement.
