Jamie Laval, International Fiddler
Known for his intensely passionate performances of traditional music from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and Quebec, Laval also brings an air of classical virtuosity and world music flair. Laval's live performances, upbeat and authentic, consistently leave audiences of all ages and musical affinities with enthusiastic, long-lasting impressions. He will be joined by sensational, self-taught 20 year old Atlanta based, Zac Leger on guitar, bouzouki and pipes. Laval was dubbed One of North Americas finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music by the San Jose Mercury News and The next Alasdair Fraser and The Asheville Citizen-Times penned Laval as One of the hottest fiddlers out there... Recent live performances include the Bijou Theatre (Knoxville), Wintergrass Festival (Tacoma), Freight & Salvage (Berkeley), Swallow Hill Productions (Denver), Club Passim (Boston), The Fringe Festival (Edinburgh), the NBC Today Show, The West Coast Live radio show, and a private appearance for Her Majesty the Queen. In 2002 Laval claimed the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship and began touring full time, a career that includes over 120 engagements per year throughout U.S. and Scotland. Laval serves on the faculty of The Swannanoa Gathering, a summer institute for traditional arts and music in Asheville, North Carolina. His debut CD, Shades of Green, airs regularly on many NPR programs nationwide. his Duo album with mandolin wonder Ashley Broder, Zephyr in the Confetti Factory, won Best World Traditional Song in the 2007 Independent Music Awards. He has collaborated on numerous television, film, and CD recordings, including Dave Matthews Some Devil, Warner Bros. Pictures Wild America, and WB-TV series Everwood.
