Growing up with classical music, but finding grunge and alternative rock as a teenager, Rebecca Angel's music blends both melodic quality and raw emotion. Also a sci-fi/fantasy novelist, her lyrics roam freely from evil wizards to sappy love songs. With a voice filled with sunshine and the imagination of J.K. Rowling, Rebecca makes a unique and engaging contribution to the Capital District folk scene. Her band members, Roger Mock, and Dennis and Lorraine Guyon, flesh out the rhythms and harmonies with congas, mandolin, bass and concertina. This ensemble has been backing Rebecca for ten years, and is featured on three of her five albums. Albany singer-songwriter Mark Shepard will open the show with his healing, hopeful songs. He accompanies himself on guitar, large drums that he crafts from trees, and with overtone singing and didgeridoo. His dynamic performances are more than entertaining--they are inspiring and enlightening.
