Gruesome Playground Injuries
Gruesome Playground Injuries is the story of a deep friendship, complicated by deep love and deeper (self-inflicted) wounds. Brooklyn couple TJ Chasteen and Angela Cristantello are co-directing the dark dramedy which features Jay Akin (Dougie) and Laura Sudduth (Kayleen), and it will be the inaugural stage production for their company. Hilarious & utterly heart-breaking, Gruesome Playground Injuries will be playing at The T. Schreiber Theatre in New York City January 3-6th & 10-12th.

We are beginning this production company as a collective of sorts, aiming to create an environment for artists to collaborate and continually create both new and exciting material, and revamp currently existing ones. We believe that artists and performers can only get stronger with a community of artistic fellows, and we wish to create and explore that through both stage and film. We chose Gruesome Playground Injuries as our inaugural production as we believe that it is an ideal reflection of the kind of work that we believe in: exciting, challenging, & meaty material with real dialogue.

Our hope is that Gruesome Playground Injuries will both garner interest and attention to our production company and, therefore, assist us in getting more of our work up and running.

The Artist's Movement consists of a group of incredibly well-trained and thoroughly ambitious artists, all of whom have individual histories of producing original and acclaimed work. (Seriously. Check out their bios below.)

*JAY AKIN (Dougie) is thrilled to be working on this wonderful play. A graduate of the Master's acting department at the University of Missouri-Kansas City as well as attaining his Bachelors in directing from the University of Houston.  Since in New York, Jay has worked with the Transcendent Theatre Ensemble and become the resident stunt coordinator for UCB digital shorts.  Jay has also appeared nationally in multiple productions at Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, the Coterie, the Alley Theatre in Houston, Kansas City Rep.  Enjoy the show! *LAURA SUDDUTH (Kayleen) has worked with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players in The Mikado at New York City Center,  and The Pirates of Penzance both at Symphony Space and on tour since her arrival in New York.  Favorite roles performed include Anne in A Little Night Music, Amor in L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Peep-Bo in The Mikado, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte, Gianetta in L'elisir d'Amore, and Sandy in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (Santa Rosa Summer Repertory Theatre). Regional Theatre: Kansas City Repertory Theatre (Saved! The Musical), The Coterie Theatre (The Outsiders).

*ANGELA CRISTANTELLO (director) is thrilled to be at the (split)helm of this production. A proud member of Actor's Equity, she graduated with her MFA in Acting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she met the rest of her Artist's Movement-family. She has been featured in a series of plays, commercials and voice-overs here in the city, written a play, written a blog, and is currently studying at Upright Citizen's Brigade. Also: she has the world's best dog. Angela seriously cannot thank you enough for your support both in this company and inaugural stage production of Gruesome Playground Injuries. TJ, Jay, Angela & Anthony Vaughn Merchant all met in their graduate Acting-program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. There, they began to collaborate and explore creating material of their own, all the while further honing their crafts as actors. They met Grant Fletcher Prewitt, Greg Brostrom, Arika Larson & Laura Sudduth while performing professionally; together, they began discussing a potential creation of a production company, one where they could explore original works both for stage and film. Now in New York City, these eight artist-friends would like to make this company a reality and expand the opportunity out to more like-minded artists searching for an artistic community, a home.

We would be COMPLETELY thrilled if you could join us and be a part of our family. So please, New York City (and beyond), show us some love & donate towards The Artist's Movement. You'll be supporting the birth of our first baby, Gruesome Playground Injuries, and you'll be further supporting the backbone and lifeline of our production company.

We cannot thank you enough already :)
