Vance Gilbert didn't come to folk stages by way of freight trains and back porches. He cut his teeth in Philadelphia jazz clubs before arriving in the folk world as the opener for Shawn Colvin's Fat City Tour in the '90s. In 2006 to 2008 he was the opener for George Carlin, playing everywhere from Foxwoods to the Grand Ol' Opry.
In the last few years he has hit his stride as a folk-soul-pop songwriter. His work ranges from soul aching ballads to mad rants and tender love songs. His live performances are an extraordinary amalgam of virtuoso singing, unbridled mischief and joy, and real wisdom on matters of race, ethics, and simple human kindness.
Opener Kayla Ringelheim of Providence, RI accompanies her pretty pop lyrics and honey voice with full, flowing piano melodies.
