About Kyle Applegate
Kyle Applegate has been a long-time lover of leather and a boot enthusiast. He has been the resident Bootblack for the NYC Eagle bar since 2005. He has shined boots across the country, in the gay rodeo circuit from N.Y. to D.C. and Philly to Arizona. Working on cowboy boots has made him a specialist in working on a wide variety of colors and exotic skins.
Kyle's interest in polishing techniques and dedication to his craft brought him to win the North East Community Bootblack contest in 2009. Later, he placed 2nd in the (ICBB) International Community Bootblack contest in San Francisco.
Kyle competed in IML's (International Mr. Leather) Bootblack competition 3 years in a row 2005-2007. He placed 2nd & 3rd, twice receiving the Bootblack Brotherhood Award from his peers. He has also organized the bootblacks for several fundraisers including Folsom Street East, Leather Pride Night and Housing Works, (an organization dedicated to provide housing for people with HIV). He has taught Bootblacking workshops in NYC and NJ, and continues to share his love of the craft to those interested.
