The Past
With The Past, Iranian director Asghar Farhadi takes his place among todays world-class filmmakers, proving that last years Best Foreign Film Oscar winner, A Separation, was no accident. Here, he plops Berenice Bejo, the scintillating co-star of The Artist, into a dark drama of family conflict. The film centers on a husband who deserts his French wife and two children, leaving them behind in Paris when he returns to Iran. Four years later he comes back to finalize the divorce, but discovers she is seeing another man, who has a son and a wife in a coma. Adults and children become tangled up in a web of wrenching emotions that tears them apart. Bejo won Best Actress at this years Cannes Film Festival.
