The Armstrong Lie
Alex Gibney has become a fixture at FilmColumbia. We have shown most of his recent documentaries: Taxi to the Dark Side, which won an Oscar, Client 9, and Mea Culpa. This year he is back with the bluntly titled The Armstrong Lie. Gibney started filming Lance Armstrong in 2009, his comeback year, and was there when he fessed up to doping. Armstrong is the Alex Rodriguez of cycling, and Gibney draws an unsparing, albeit balanced picture of the man, capturing his overweening ego, his arrogance, and his compulsive competitiveness, but also allowing the desperation to come through.
