Like Father, Like Son
Hirokazu Kore-eda, perhaps Japans finest living filmmaker, takes the evergreen theme of family and, according to Britains Telegraph, reporting from the exuberant premiere of Like Father, Like Son at Cannes, surges into it like a child playing inside a duvet cover. Steven Spielberg, President of the Cannes Jury, liked it so much that he awarded it the Special Jury Prize, and is now readying an American remake. As the film opens, two families, living at opposite ends of town in more ways than one, discover that their sons, now six, are not theirs but each others. General confusion follows, out of which emerges a celebration of the glorious uncertainty of life, and the cohesive power of domesticity.
