The Oath
Despite her efforts to stay out of the spotlight, Laura Poitras, a MacArthur Fellow and award-winning documentary filmmaker has been identified as the woman to whom Edward Snowden first revealed his whistle-blowing secrets. Poitras, with only three features, has established herself as one of Americas most fearless and probing filmmakers. We are screening her most celebrated work, The Oath which weaves together the stories of Abu Jandal, Osama bin Ladens former bodyguard, and Salim Hamdan, a Guantanamo Bay prisoner charged with war crimes. Poitras delivers enough plot reversals and betrayals to stock a Hollywood thriller, as well as never-before-seen intelligence documents.
