The Local Music Scene is a rotating cast of some of the best improvisors in the Twin Cities. Every month for over 4 years they've used the music of local artists as inspiration for improvised scenes. November's guest: Carlisle Evans Peck.
Minneapolis singer-songwriter Carlisle Evans Peck strives for the heart of human connection in his cinematic compositions. Equally at home in a wooded glade or on a cabaret stage, he weaves vibrant indie-classical mythologies at home with the likes of Benjamin Clementine, Antony and the Johnsons, and Joanna Newsom. Carlisle's past lives were filled with choral singing, classical piano, botany and plant ecology, and invented languages, all of which mix and meld in his songwriting. In 2018 he released his third and most recent album Electric Porcelain, an ambitious orchestral-rock epic of queer love, loss and transformation. His richly textured music defies genre classification; songs become sagas among his virtuosic piano performances, lush orchestration, and ethereal falsetto. Whether surrounded by a nine-piece chamber-rock orchestra, backed by soaring choral harmonies, or solo with his haunting voice and piano laid bare, Carlisle Evans Peck is a transportive performer with a singular artistic voice.
