desigNarrative: Olson Kundig's Blair Payson, AIA (2019 Experience Architecture)
Olson Kundig is a renowned collaborative design practice whose work expands the context of built and natural landscapes. Their award-winning work spans five continents and includes a wide range of locales, from rural to urban. In our region, they have been selected to design the new art park at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento.
The AIA Central Valley desigNarrative Series is excited to host a conversation with architect Blair Payson, AIA, LEED AP who joined the firm in 2004. In addition to his Sacramento project, he is also working on two new museum projects in Hawaii and London, and a collaboration with Recompose, a Washington state organization advocating for an alternative approach for burying the dead. A maker at heart, Blair is an architect who revels in the details. From large cultural projects to temporary design interventions, Blair is able to distill large, complex projects into distinct culminating moments. His research has taken him on site visits to a subterranean cavern deep underground in one week, to hundreds of feet above an urban landscape the next.
Blair regularly lectures and organizes conferences across the U.S. Most recently, he chaired the 2018 Architects Newspaper Conference in Seattle, and delivered a lecture for the 2019 Facades+ Conference in New York City.
The evening includes light refreshments, followed by open dialogue and a Q&A session.
Event founded by Jack Paddon, AIA, Tyler Babcock, AIA, Brian Sehnert, AIA; with leadership provided by Cody Carpino, AIA, Maria Ogrydziak, AIA, and Kevin Young, AIA.
Sponsors: Comstocks Magazine, SMUD, Milgard Windows & Doors, Lionakis, and Fulcrum Properties, BCA Architects and Williams + Paddon Architects + Planners.
