AAH Hard Hat Tour of Mercy San Juan NICU
Dignity Health is remodeling third floor shell space in the Mercy San Juan McAuley Tower to accommodate a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This new unit will replace the existing NICU in the Russell Tower. The NICU is part of a larger project to upgrade the Mercy San Juan Family Birthing Center, which includes renovations to the adjacent Labor & Delivery unit in the Russell Tower.
The project includes: - 22,181 square feet, including finish out of existing shell space in the McAuley Tower and finish out of existing shell space bridge to the Russell Tower - New NICU would house 16 private beds and 24 beds that are shared in 3-bed pods, for a total of 40 NICU beds - The new NICU will have capacity for 4 additional beds surge capacity - The existing NICU is licensed for 26 NICU beds - Remodel of shell space includes finishes on the bridge connector to 3rd floor Russell Tower, which houses the Labor & Delivery unit - Construction expected to begin January 4, 2019 - Construction expected to be complete March 3, 2020
